Holland's own dancehall diva Lady K-Wida has delivered again. After the killer
'Love Can Make You Blind' her sophomore single on the Black Star label is 'One Man
Woman' and features no other than Jamaican icon Yellowman. Again a very potent
tune that probably has even wider appeal than her previous release. The CD-single
holds a total of three cuts. The take without Yellowman makes clear that the icon
was not really needed for the tune, his solid contribution simply adds to the
whole. The third version is a very good live recording done for a radio station.
'One Man Woman' seems to be a long time favourite of K-Wida's. On Youtube.com you
can find numerous live versions of the song done over the last few years together
with Osagyefo. On Poor Man Friend's debut album
(Urban Dub, 2002) you can find what seems to be her earliest recording of the
song together with Papeman, when her not yet matured voice came from a much
higher register. Good thing that her voice and stamina have grown considerably
more flexible and powerful since then.
Credits for the song include those for Ashley "Grub" Cooper. He originally wrote
the tune for Gem Myers who scored a hit with it on Jamaica in the latter half of
the 1980's. Apart from writing the occasional hit the outside of Jamaica little
known Cooper is an original member of the Fab 5 (drums), a producer and even a
pantomime playwright. He was awarded the Jamaican Order of Distinction, in the
rank of officer (OD) and in 2006 he was even promoted to the rank of Commander
(CD) for his contribution to music.
The video for K-Wida and Yellowman has already been seen over eight thousand
times within its first two months of publication on Youtube, please check it
here. K-Wida
won the hearts of several Jamaican patrons when she performed the song together
with the king himself at one of his shows when she visited Jamaica in January.
But more niceness is still to come. It is rumoured that when she was there she
also recorded a dancehall combination with Lady G over an original Firehouse
Crew riddim and even a combination with Sizzla is a possibility. Cyan wait!
