2009.09.30 Andrew Tosh covicted;
Legendary reggae star Peter Tosh' son Andrew was found guilty of possesing marijuana last Monday the 28th by the court in St Catherine, Jamaica. Andrew Tosh was ordered to perform 200 hours of community service. Please read the full Associated Press article here.
2009.09.16 Trevor Rhone dies;
Jamaica's best known playwright Trevor Rhone died yesterday aged 69 in a Kingston Hospital following a heart attack. He was best known for co-writing the movie The Harder They Come (1972) with Perry Henzel. He also wrote more than a dozen plays including Two Can Play, wrote and directed Smile Orange (1976) and wrote Milk And Honey (1988) and One Love (2003) featuring Cherine Anderson and Ky-Mani Marley. 2009.09.02 Steely dies;
Yesterday morning producer Steely (of Steely & Clevie) died at a New York city hospital of heart failure. Steely already suffered from diabetes when he was hospitalized for kidney failure at the University Hospital of the West Indies last December. He went to New York for further treatment where a brain tumor was discovered. While recovering from a succesfull removal of the benign tumor he contracted pneumonia. 2009.08.19 Thriller U's daughter murdered;
Last Monday, August 17 Nekitta Hamilton was murdered when she was visiting with friends in Miramar (FL, USA) to shop for her upcoming sweet 16 party. She, her friend (15) and his mother (49) were killed in what seems to have been a home invasion robbery. A fourth victim was shot in the face and left for dead but she survived. 2009.08.14 Demme leaves Marley documentary;
After taking over from director Martin Scorsese in May of 2008 Jonathan Demme has now also left the family sanctioned Bob Marley documentary project. He left right after he showed the first edit. The film is to be released next February. Please read the full OneIndia article here.
2009.08.01 Spice survives head-on collision;
Dancehall darling Spice survived a head-on car collision when she travelled between two shows this Saturday morning. Her fiance Canar was driving the car with Spice and her entourage in it and tried to avoid the collision. The car was totalled and because Spice had just swopped places inside the car she and her party survived. Please read the full News Blaze article here.
2009.07.30 Beenie Man crowned at Sumfest;
Beenie Man was officially crowned King of the Dancehall last weekend at the Reggae Sumfest festival in Montego Bay. He received his crown and robe from fellow performer Lady Saw. Please read the full S2SMagazine.com article here.
2009.07.29 Bounty Killer trial stalled again;
Bounty Killer's lawyers have again stalled the traffic trial of their client. The original trial date for running seven red lights in 2008 was originally set for May 12. 2009.07.19 Eek-A-Mouse and patrons escape disaster;
An audience of some 650 people anticipating an Eek-A-Mouse show last friday the 17th, were suddenly evacuated from a venue in San Diegao, USA, when it's roof caught fire. No one was injured and the show was quickly moved to a different venue. Please read the full SignOnSanDiego.com article here.
2009.07.10 Ninja Man and son denied bail;
Jahniel Ballentine and his father Ninja Man were again denied bail when they appeared before the Gun Court Section of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on thursday the 9th. 2009.07.09 Bounty Killer turns himself in;
Two weeks ago it was ruled that Bounty Killer and a former police officer had to be arrested for an incident that happened in September 2007. Bounty turned himself in to face charges of illegal possession of a firearm, unlawful wounding and assault at common law. If convicted he could face up to fifteen years inprisonment. 2009.07.03 New film Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae
Swiss filmmaker Stascha Bader recently premiered his film Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae at the Montreux Jazz Festival and it is now being shown in Toronto.
